Otis Hydro Station Excitation and Controls Rebuild
SGC provided services to replace the existing solid state Siemens Allis excitation and automatic voltage regulator systems for (2) 5 MW hydro turbines set up to run in parallel. The existing analog systems needed replacement due to failure and obsolescence. All of the controls were removed, including the power magnetics, and replaced with new Power-Tronics digital controls. As part of this project, VAR/PF control was also added to the existing control scheme.
SGC’s scope consisted of: evaluation of equipment and materials on site, confirmation of field wiring, specification of new equipment and materials, development of a contractor scope of work, preparation of new and existing wiring diagrams and schematics, integration into the existing control scheme, construction coordination, installation, commissioning, and start up supervision. Evaluation and editing were done to the existing plant’s Modbus PLC program, using existing equipment and instrumentation.
Revitalize the VAR, Voltage, and Pond Level control schemes that allowed the site to function in an automated mode relieving the mill from having to maintain an on-site operator. SGC continues to service the site in an operation and maintenance capacity.
